The seeds of climate resilient, pest resistant, high yielding new varieties of rice were given to the farmers. The farmers took keen interest to buy seeds of CSR 101 and P 2090 varieties which have the potential to replace long duration water gujjling PUSA 44 / PILI PUSA / DOGAR PUSA varieties commonly grown in BARNALA , SANGRUR, MANSA and PATIALA districts of Panjab. These varieties take 15 to 20 days less and give almost same yield.
The visiting farmers also have the opportunity to see climate smart, pest resistant, high yielding new varieties of wheat HD 3385, HD 3386, PBW 872, DBW 327 and DBW 377 grown at the research centre for location specific testing.
Inspite of the peak harvesting season of wheat and unfavourable weather conditions large number of farmers from the area participated in the BEEJ DIWAS
